A world where people living in the city coexist harmoniously with other creatures, respecting, loving, and supporting each other - this is the vision behind Trinity, a groundbreaking street furniture design by Feray Unlu and Ipek Memikoglu. Trinity represents the triple aspect of a world consisting of adults, children, and animals, fostering a sense of community and connection.
Trinity is designed as a quarter of a circle, with three seating units that cater to adults, children, and animals. The circular arrangement establishes a relationship between these three areas, creating a space where they can interact and coexist. The modular design allows for the reproduction of these units, completing the circular form and expanding the possibilities for communal gathering.
What sets Trinity apart from existing street furniture is its focus on sustainability, modularity, and animal welfare. The concrete and iron mesh materials chosen for their durability and cleanliness ensure that Trinity is built to last. The iron mesh seating units create playful shadows when the sun shines, providing a source of entertainment for children and animals alike. The concrete seating units offer shelter for animals during winter, while the low iron seats for children encourage interaction with the animals and provide a platform for feeding them. Additionally, easy-to-clean water and food bowls are integrated into the design, ensuring the animals' needs are met.
Technical specifications for Trinity include a 56 cm diameter and 75 cm base diameter for the concrete seating units designed for adults, with a height of 45 cm. The entrance for animals has a radius of 26 cm. The iron seating unit for children measures 72 cm in length, 45 cm in width, and 22.5 cm in height. The water bowl for animals has a diameter of 33 cm. To complete a full circle with modules, the diameter should be 370 cm, with a length (radius) of 185 cm from the center of the circular organization to the center of the concrete seating unit.
Trinity not only provides a space for rest and socialization but also encourages a closer relationship between humans and animals. By bringing them together in a shared environment, Trinity aims to break down barriers and foster empathy and understanding. The design was conceptualized in October 2019 in Ankara, Turkey, and was showcased at the Design Turkey Industrial Design Awards exhibition in November 2019 at the Istanbul Lutfi Kirdar International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Recognized for its innovation and practicality, Trinity was awarded the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in the Street and City Furniture Design category in 2021. This award honors designs that meet professional and industrial requirements while integrating industry best practices and competent technical characteristics. Trinity's thoughtful design and commitment to creating a better world have earned it this esteemed accolade.
